Joonho Bang -

Hello! I'm 3D Artist Bang Junho (Joonho Bang).

I’m a 3D artist, FX TD, and designer who first stepped into the world of CG and FX through programming.

Starting from coding, I’ve steadily expanded into design, character art, animation, storytelling, and more. The process of constantly learning new things and creatively pushing boundaries is my greatest source of motivation.

As a 3D generalist and FX artist, I’ve worked at The Mill, collaborating with various global brands including Bud Light, Riot Games, Delta, Spotify, Oreo, Coca-Cola, and many others.

Title: “Worlds Trophy Ceremony”

Role: CG Artist / FX Artist

Riot Games Worlds Trophy Ceremony campaign—commonly known as the "롤드컵" (League of Legends World Championship)—an advertisement produced through a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Riot Games.

The video aired during the 2021 League of Legends World Championship Finals (EDG vs. DWG KIA).

In this project, I was responsible for creating various FX elements, including lightning beams, smoke, debris, and more. Rather than simply implementing high-end effects, the look of the effects I produced became a core element that defined the overall mood and tone of the entire advertisement. Because of this, I worked closely with the previz artist from the previs stage onward to jointly establish the overall visual direction.

The biggest challenge was the process of convincing the director and the client about the look. To achieve this, I went through multiple iterations—adjusting the shape of the lightning, the motion of the beams, noise patterns, and other details—until we finally completed the FX look that forms the highlight of the advertisement.

Title: “Champions Evolve 3D Billboard”

Role: CG Artist / FX Artist

Employer: The Mill

This project is an Infosys advertisement that was displayed on the 3D billboards in New York’s Times Square, featuring the world-renowned tennis player Rafael Nadal as part of the campaign.

The ad is structured around four distinct stages—wind, rain/snow, heat, and overcast/fog—each showing Nadal hitting a tennis ball in those extreme weather conditions.

This was a time when 3D billboard advertisements were rapidly gaining popularity, and this was also my very first 3D billboard project. Because of that, accurately matching CG elements with live-action footage—while accounting for the massive scale and curved surface of the actual billboard—became a critical part of the process.

I used Nuke to recreate the real camera position, then repeatedly ran projection tests tailored to the billboard’s surface geometry. This allowed me to minimize distortion between the footage and CG, ultimately achieving a visually convincing stereoscopic effect when viewed on the billboard.

On this project, I took primary responsibility for the wind stage, while also contributing to some of the FX work on the other stages.
